Projects with Stockholm Saxophone Quartet

Since 2009 Johan Svensson and Stockholm Saxophone Quartet have been cooperating to create workshops in experimental music for music students in different phases of their education.

Musik för stor orkester: Sjuorna möter Stockholms Saxofonkvartett

Involving six school classes, totally around 150 students from the 7th grade. During three intense days (November 7-9, 2011) Johan Svensson and the saxophone quartet will teach the school children to play the newly written piece ‘up up up around around’ (for saxophone quartet an optional free setting ensemble). The saxophone quartet and the students will November 9th perform the piece together on a concert in Vimmerby.

The schools involved are Astrid Lindgrensskolan and Vimarskolan in Vimmerby. The project is supported by Föreningen Svenska Tonsättare, Länsmusiken i Kalmar Län, Helge Ax:son Johnsons stiftelse, Kulturrådet och Sparbanksstiftelsen i Vimmerby.

Framtidens musik med framtidens publik

In the ambitious project Framtidens musik med framtidens publik, Stockholm Saxophone Quartet and design strategist Ulrika Ljungberg arrange several workshops and concerts spread out over Sweden. Addressing music students in different phases of their education, the aim of the project is to make the youths formulate how they want a concert with new music do look like. This by letting them compose and perform music themselves during an intense period of time. The project is an Artist-in-motion project with support from RANK.

Johan Svensson together with SSQ and Ulrika Ljungberg made realization of a three day workshop with ending concert 23-25 March 2010. Participants was about 50 music students from Hvitfeltdtska Gymnasiet in Gothenburg. This part project was held by Levande Musik.

Concert workshop at Hulebäcksgymnasiet

During some years Levande musik has been regularly arranging pedagogic artistic projects for children and youths. This is one of them that took place in Hulebäcksgymnasiet in Mölnlycke, February 2009. A two day workshop led by Johan Svensson and Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, with participants from music classes in Hulebäcksgymnasiet, finished with a very exciting concert where the participants and the quartet performed music created these days.
